The night sky does not rush its stars;
they burn quietly in the cold,
each light a ghost of where it’s been,
a story waiting to be told.
Life works in much the same dark space.
We search for warmth, we look for shape,
tracing lines through random years
to give the chaos some escape.
The sun must drop for light to mean
a single thing against the black;
you cannot see how bright you shine
until the world turns pitch and back.
So let the dark be what it is:
the empty field where worlds are born.
The stars don't fight the midnight air
they simply hold until the morn.
they burn quietly in the cold,
each light a ghost of where it’s been,
a story waiting to be told.
