But saying “don’t compare” on a post specifically about pregnancy is a bit like saying “don’t compare swimmers by how much water they’re in.”
One person experiences the pregnancy. The other supports it. Both matter, but they’re not the same experience.
Nobody is comparing the value of mothers and fathers. We’re comparing pregnancy and… not being pregnant. Both roles matter, but they’re clearly not the same journey.
Also Artificial conception helps create a pregnancy, not carry it. The pregnancy still happens in the mother’s body, not in a laboratory. So I’m not sure how that changes the point about the physical realities of pregnancy.
Acknowledging the unique physical burden of pregnancy isn’t a competition and it doesn’t take anything away from fathers. We can appreciate fathers without pretending both experiences are the same.
