I should have written this year ago, but here it goes. Have patience with this long post.
In this digital age, meeting people online has become as normal as grabbing coffee with a friend. Whether it’s for friendship, deepening connections, or even finding love, the internet has opened up so many doors to meeting people from all walks of life. I’ve had my fair share of experiences in this realm, and while not every connection has worked out as I imagined, I find myself grateful for each one especially the ones that made me fall in love, even if we never met in person.
Let me start with the friendships. There’s something special about meeting people online who share your interests, hobbies, and passions. Whether it’s through social media, online gaming, or a shared love of a certain TV show, connecting with someone across the world who "gets you" in a way that maybe others in your day-to-day life don’t is an amazing feeling. I've met friends online who have become a part of my daily life. We share everything, from random memes to the ups and downs of our days. The best part? No pressure. It’s like a pure, unfiltered version of friendship where you’re both just being yourselves, with no judgment. Some of these friendships have even turned into close bonds, and it feels like we’ve known each other for years, even though we’ve never met face to face.
But let’s talk about love. Ah, love in the digital age. For a while, I was skeptical about the idea of falling in love with someone I hadn’t met in person, but somehow, that’s exactly what happened. It started with late night conversations, sleeping cam, getting to know each other on a deeper level than I ever expected. We shared our dreams, our fears, and everything in between. It felt so easy to be open and vulnerable because there was no pressure of physical proximity or awkward silences. It was like we could just be our truest selves without worrying about anything else.
Falling for someone online felt exciting, like a whirlwind. We’d exchange messages throughout the day, spend hours on video calls, and daydream about the possibility of one day meeting. There was a connection that felt genuine, even if we were separated by miles, time zones, and the fact that we hadn’t yet crossed paths in real life. I began to imagine what it would be like to meet him, to hold his hand, and to see if the spark would be as real in person as it was through our screens. But, as things often go, life had other plans. Sometimes, the timing just wasn’t right. Our lives, our responsibilities, and the distance between us became obstacles that couldn’t be ignored. And as much as we both wanted it to work, it simply didn’t.
And yet, despite it not working out in the end, I find myself feeling grateful. Grateful that I got to experience falling in love in such an unexpected way, even if we never had the chance to meet. There’s something beautiful about the way we connected on such a deep, emotional level without any of the typical pressures of a traditional relationship. We learned so much from each other, and those memories, those conversations, will always hold a special place in my heart.
It didn’t work out, but that doesn’t mean it was a failure. Sometimes, the connections that don’t last forever are the ones that teach us the most about ourselves, love, and what we want in a relationship. I’m thankful for the moments we shared, for the love that grew between us even if only through words and screens and for the reminder that sometimes, love doesn’t need to be immediate or physical to be real.
In the end, meeting people online has taught me one thing: not all connections are meant to last forever, but every single one is worth being grateful for. I’m lucky to have met such incredible people, both friends and lover, who have left a lasting impact on my life. And even though I may never have met him in person, the love I felt and the lessons I learned will stay with me, and for that, I’m truly thankful. And.. he will always have a special place in my heart. (KZ) ❤
How about you guys? Have you experienced the same?
