I miss hearing you say, “I miss you,”
not because those words are new,
but because somehow, when they leave your lips,
they make the distance feel less cruel.
I miss the feeling of being remembered,
of knowing that somewhere in your day,
between all the noise and passing moments,
your heart quietly wandered my way.
I miss the sound of your voice,
the softness hidden inside your words,
the way even an ordinary sentence
could stay with me long after it was heard.
There are moments when I wish
I could pause the world for just a while—
just long enough to hear you speak,
just long enough to hear your smile.
Because I don't only miss your words.
I miss what they made me feel:
that somewhere beyond the silence,
what we share is still real.
I miss being close enough
to understand what your eyes don't say,
to feel the warmth of your presence,
to forget the distance for a day.
And sometimes, when everything is quiet,
my heart becomes painfully honest.
It doesn't ask for grand promises,
or anything impossible or perfect.
It only longs for those three little words:
“I miss you.”
Words that somehow carry
all the tenderness I cannot explain,
all the memories I keep returning to,
all the love that remains through the distance.
If you knew how often I think of you,
perhaps you'd understand this ache—
how your absence can fill a room
with everything my heart cannot escape.
I miss the moments we have shared,
and the moments we have yet to know.
I miss the comfort of your presence,
and the warmth of simply being close.
So if someday you feel a quiet longing,
a sudden ache you cannot name,
perhaps that is my heart reaching for yours,
whispering softly through the distance:
“I miss you.”
And if I could hear you whisper it back,
even just once tonight,
I think my heart would breathe again—
because sometimes, my love,
hearing that you miss me too
is all the comfort I need.
