I came from abroad with a tired smile,
the old gate opened with a soft creak.
Grandma and Grandpa held out their arms
warm, like home I’d missed for weeks.

The tharavaad was green and calm,
mango leaves shining after sun.
Birds called, squirrels ran on the wall
I felt my heart slow down and soften.

Evening came with my favourite snacks
crispy, hot, and full of care.
We laughed a little, talked a lot,
comfort floating in the air.

Then rain began on the tiled roof,
cool wind touched my face and hair.
I sat outside on the long front step,
watching silver lines everywhere.

A hot cup of coffee warmed my hands,
strong and sweet, a perfect sip.
In that moment I knew for sure...
this house still holds my root and grip.
