Sometimes I feel we become cold not because we want to, but because life leaves us no choice. A broken trust here, a disappointment there, and slowly we wrap ourselves in layers of ice, telling ourselves it’s safer this way. And for a while, it is. Coldness feels like protection, like we’ve finally built walls strong enough to stop the hurt.
But then the silence gets heavy. We realize the walls not only keep the pain out, they also keep love away. We stop letting people in, stop sharing pieces of ourselves, and little by little we forget what it feels like to truly connect.
The truth is, we can’t stay this way forever. We need people. We need conversations that make our chest feel lighter, arms that remind us we’re not alone, and souls that meet ours halfway. Yes, it’s risky. Yes, it might hurt again. But connection is the only warmth strong enough to melt what life has frozen inside us.
And maybe that’s the lesson... not to let the coldness consume us, but to carry just enough of it to protect ourselves while still leaving space for new bonds to grow. Because in the end, we don’t survive by being untouchable. We survive by being understood.
