What Is Self-Respect?
Self-respect is knowing when to stay,
And when to quietly walk away.
It’s not being proud, or acting tough,
It’s knowing your worth when life gets rough.
It’s choosing peace when arguments rise,
And letting go of convenient lies.
It’s not begging someone, “Please don’t leave,”
When their actions make you cease to believe.
Self-respect is a silent line,
Saying, “Your love cannot define.”
You may care, you may love, you may cry,
But you won’t lose yourself just to make someone stay by your side.
It’s accepting that some doors must close,
Even when your heart still hopes.
Not every bond is meant to remain,
Some people leave to teach you pain.
The world may judge, the world may blame,
But you don’t have to play every game.
For dignity shines when nobody sees,
And real strength sometimes means saying, “Please,
No more.”
Self-respect is not revenge or pride,
It’s standing calmly on your own side.
To know your value, through loss or gain—
And never trade your soul just to escape the pain.
