Praise is so ingrained in us like it became social fabric. But it does its pros and cons or ups and downs or risks as all Roadblocks do.
Praise often becomes a judgment (you did a good job, etc.) and the act of judging implies expertise and establishes the judge’s superiority implying an inequality between the person judging and the person or event being judged.
People erroneously assume that everyone likes to be praised. Not so. Atleast a few (of the most) often feel uncomfortable or embarrassed by praise. Then they may deny or discount it. Sometimes people become suspicious of the person doing the praising, questioning his or her motives. “What does he/she want? What is he getting at? What kind of pitch is this?”.
Unless we are using praise to manipulate or shape behaviour, its actual purpose is positive feedback, sharing pleasure, relief, happiness and a host of other good feelings related to positive behaviours which can be accomplished by sending positive I-Messages like - I like it when, I appreciate it when and so on without any other risks.
But it’s being used for manipulation, attraction and attention at times. For those seeking attention or attraction, Praise became an addiction too.
To consider good side, praise shouldn’t be as judgement. Rather, better express your likeliness for the actions.
Is praise received worthy? Do we need to accept or consider? Does Praise dominates the character? Senseless and valueless praising just for the sake of, doesn’t do any good. Well, it depends on the person, situation, intensity and lot more factors around. Of all, positiveness and manners play an important role to receive it and just to hold it without getting influenced. Being sensuous and conscious is important.
Have you ever come across a praise by a person who you don’t like? If you did, how u reacted? Or whether actually did u realize whether he/she worth doing it? Appreciate if anyone share your experiences.
