Scotland replaced Bangladesh in upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. Why & How?
Bangladesh refused to play in India ( one of the host countries) due to security concerns. How it all started ?
BCCI ( Board of Control for Cricket in India ) asked KKR ( Kolkata Knight Riders - Indian Premier League ( IPL) team ) to take off Mustafizur Rahman ( a Bangladeshi Cricketer ) from their team roaster without giving any valid reason (special development it quoted ) and KKR duly followed it as BCCI is the boss!
Mustafizur auctioned only in mid December last year? What hardly has changed in a month? If there was a problem, he shouldn’t have been in the auction’s list players in the first place. Isn’t it ? Nope there is a greater twist to this as the big bully BCCI has something up its sleeve!
Though a minnow or a small country in cricketing terms, any team has its pride at stake right, when one of their team members was treated in political / religious bias?
So as a retaliation BCB ( Bangladesh Cricket Board) refused to play in India and instead they choose to play in SriLanka ( another hosting partner of this event ).
ICC ( International Cricket Council ), though the name suggests “International “ this is just a chemcha of BCCI said - they have conducted an independent security review and there was no threat to BCB to play in India.
Few questions - When a single player was taken of the roaster due to “special development “, how can it not be a threat for the whole team ?
Okay, there is no threat but you refused to play in host country ? Fine. Forfeit ? This is also fine as it happened with West Indies and Australia who refused to play in Sri Lanka for same reasons, as well as England refused to play in Zimbabwe and vice Versa! They were forfeited or replaced. Yes, rule is a rule and rule for all! Fair enough ?!
But what happened in 2025 Champions Trophy ? For ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistan travelled to India, hoping against the hope that , India would honor the other end of the bargain by playing in 2025, as the PCB awarded hosting an ICC event after 29 years! But when it was time to honor that agreement, India refused to play and successfully bargained to play in a neutral venue ( Dubai) in a single ground and staying at the same hotel, where other teams shuttling between Pakistan and Dubai. How was this even made possible, when the history suggests that rule is a rule ? But not for big bully BCCI right ? Who had ICC in its pocket in a way of Jay Shah ( who is he, you all know- don’t ask me ) who is heading the council ! Make sense ? It’s not the only incident where BCCI twisted ICC’s arm! Remember? Steve Buckner was stripped off officiating duty in the middle of India - Australian series? Why? Coz he was giving Sachin ( the god of cricket or supposed to be ?) out! So, though a renowned neutral umpire- he was taken off duties !
Now, coming to this hand shake gate which was recently happened - remember ? Just before 10 minutes of the toss, ICC referee came running and captains shouldn’t hand shake? Fuck it- seriously ? If you cant or don’t want to play , fucking forfeit ? Why the fucking drama to defame a country on world stage ? Fucking toxicity, just bullying!
Now the question, will BCB be paid the ICC member benefits of participation just like Zimbabwe was paid in earlier incidents? I doubt it! This is just gross misconduct or victimization of small poor countries as you have the money and power to do so ?
When a big bully, bullies the bully, bully gets mind blocked on where to get OIL from when 500% tariff hanging on his head! Sovereignty!!!
Any way, as a common sports enthusiast, what should I do ? As a token of protest I stop watching this tournament plus IPL! Will Jay Shah, come running and beg me to watch ? LOL, HELL NO. But that’s the minimum I can do and wish any other country win this tournament( even Namibia) but not India.
Nope , I’m not an anti-nationalist, but an eternal optimist!
Sports should bridge the people and countries, shouldn’t divide them.
